Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 18TH CENTURY:
Thick tin glaze with natural crazing: early low-fire kiln production.
Buff earthenware exposed at the unglazed foot rim: traditional soft-paste pottery.
Hand-painted cobalt blue chinoiserie figure: decoration brushed on by hand.
Minor fritting along the lobed rim: softness of historic tin enamel.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

An eighteenth-century Dutch Delftware decorative bowl in the Dutch Baroque style, made from tin-glazed earthenware decorated with cobalt oxide. The blue and white piece displays a white tin-glazed background, fine surface crazing throughout the glaze, and small chips of fritting along the scalloped rim. Hand-painted cobalt blue brushwork forms a central chinoiserie figural scene within a circular border, surrounded by a fluted body with lobed rim panels. It measures 16.5 cm high, 16.5 cm wide, and 5 cm deep. In a modern home interior, this bowl suits placement on a sideboard top to hold small items or act as a standalone decorative accent within an English Country House aesthetic. The domestic setting benefits from placing the object in a living area or dining space where the hand-painted blue motifs remain visible. The dish provides a practical display option for surfaces requiring period character without occupying excessive space.

Delftware is tin-glazed earthenware produced primarily in and around Delft in the Netherlands from the seventeenth century onwards, created to emulate imported Chinese porcelain using cobalt blue decoration on a white glaze background.

These bowls were shaped from local clay, covered in an opaque white tin glaze, hand-painted with cobalt oxide pigments prior to firing, and coated in a clear lead glaze to produce a glossy surface.

Authentic historic Delftware displays a soft reddish or yellowish earthenware body where glaze is chipped, visible surface crazing, slight irregularities in hand-painted motifs, and small peg marks on the base from kiln firing.

Place the bowl on a sideboard, display dresser, or mantelpiece alongside brass objects or modern wood furniture to complement both contemporary and traditional interior palettes.

Dust the surface with a soft microfibre cloth and avoid soaking the ceramic in water, as moisture can permeate glaze cracks and weaken the underlying porous clay body.
