This Gothic Revival stained glass panel from 1890 depicts the three wise men bringing gifts to the baby Jesus within a central oval roundel, surrounded by a laurel wreath border and lead came detailing. The piece is set within a simple wooden frame and features cobalt blue glass panels alongside painted figures in brown tones with green highlights. A white paper label with handwritten black script is adhered to the top left corner behind the glass. Measuring 47 cm high, 37 cm wide, and 3 cm deep, this rectangular window panel sits upright on a deep window sill to catch the natural light, or hangs against a bright wall where light passes through the glass to illuminate the nativity scene.

Painted stained glass originated in the medieval period and flourished through the Renaissance and Gothic Revival eras, primarily commissioned for ecclesiastical structures to depict biblical narratives and saintly figures.

Craftsmen applied vitreous paints and silver stains onto sheets of coloured or clear glass, fired them in a kiln to fuse the pigment, and assembled the individual pieces using flexible H-shaped lead cames soldered at the joints.

Authentic pieces feature irregular hand-blown glass textures, signs of oxidation or patina on the lead cames, hand-painted brushstrokes fused directly into the glass surface, and wear consistent with age along the structural joins.

These panels are frequently suspended in front of modern windows, set onto deep window sills, or mounted in lightboxes to serve as luminous focal points without requiring permanent architectural installation.

Clean gently with a soft dry cloth or microfibre duster, avoiding harsh chemical sprays or immersion in water, which can damage unstable painted surfaces and weaken lead came structures.
