This Edwardian Arts and Crafts occasional table takes a circular form in dark brown oak. The top surface features low relief carving with interlaced strapwork and a central rosette, sitting above scalloped aprons with pierced apertures. Four slender, tapering square legs display continuous chevron banding and support a lower conforming tier with matching relief carving. The timber shows a warm patina, light surface wear, and a stable hairline split to the undertier. Measuring 68.5 cm high by 52.5 cm wide and 52.5 cm deep, the table fits neatly beside an armchair or at the end of a sofa in a living room, serving as a practical stand for a lamp or a cup of tea.

The Arts and Crafts movement focused on simple forms, visible construction techniques, and hand-crafted decoration inspired by nature. Furniture from this period typically avoided mass-produced industrial excess, opting instead for solid timber and traditional joinery.

Tables of this era were primarily crafted from solid native hardwoods, with dark stained oak being the most prominent material. The surfaces often feature hand-carved relief work, chip carving, or low-relief foliate motifs.

Authentic pieces display subtle irregularities consistent with hand carving rather than machine precision. Look for age-appropriate oxidation in the wood grain, wear around the feet and lower edges, and traditional joinery rather than modern fasteners.

A carved oak occasional table serves as a functional accent alongside modern seating, functioning as a lamp table or drinks stand. The lower shelf provides space for books or decorative ceramics while introducing organic texture to neutral spaces.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfiber cloth to clean intricate carved recesses. Apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve moisture in the timber, avoiding silicone sprays and direct placement near heat sources.
