Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1900s:
Hand-knotted wool foundation seen on reverse: traditional tribal loom work.
Intact patterned flat-weave skirt at lower edge: typical nomadic bag face finish.
Gentle dye abrash across the wool: hand-dyed yarns from different small batches.
Slight irregularities in the hooked diamond lattice: woven freehand without a cartoon.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This antique Persian tribal Jaf Kurd wool bagface dates from the 1900 period. The textile presents a terracotta red diamond lattice pattern filled with blue, beige, and green geometric latch-hook medallions, enclosed within an indigo border. The wool has a tactile finish with visible signs of age and wear along the fringed borders and edges. Measuring 70 cm by 70 cm, the square bagface is suitable for various decorative placements around the home, bringing a vibrant, traditional aesthetic to interior styling. Hand-knotted with natural-dyed wools, the piece displays a rich combination of orange, blue, green, and beige tones across its complex geometric layout. The detailed tribal motifs and varied colour palette reflect authentic nomadic craftsmanship from the early twentieth century. This textile works well as a decorative wall hanging or a small accent rug in a living room, hallway, or study, integrating effortlessly into bohemian or traditional interior schemes.

A Jaf Kurd bagface is a hand-woven pile textile crafted by the nomadic Jaf tribe from the border regions of Persia and Iraq. These weaves originally formed the decorative face panel of double saddlebags, known as khorjin, used for transport during seasonal migrations.

These pieces are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool pile woven onto a durable wool foundation. The wool yarns were traditionally coloured using natural vegetable dyes, featuring bold diamond lattices rendered in primary tribal palettes.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-tied wool knotting on all-wool warp and weft structures, alongside subtle natural dye variations known as abrash. The visual design is defined by repeating diamond lattice grids filled with hooked or latch-hook geometric motifs.

Small tribal bagfaces are frequently mounted as framed wall art, integrated into custom cushion covers, or draped over side tables. The bold geometric patterns provide colour and texture contrast within modern, eclectic, or rustic room schemes.

Clean the textile by vacuuming gently using suction only, avoiding rotary brush heads that can catch the pile. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight to prevent natural dye fading, and consult a professional rug restorer for specialised washing.
