This original 1900 Arts & Crafts wall art by Felix Vanoutryve & Company consists of a gouache textile design on paper presented behind glass in a dark wooden frame. The paper displays an intricate pattern of stylized blue thistle buds and green acanthus leaves set against a brown scrollwork background, accompanied by handwritten pencil notations, maker's marks, colour sample patches, and production grid lines. The framed piece incorporates a paper label in the upper right corner detailing sketching, weaving, and production references dated October 2nd 1900. Measuring 86 x 103 cm, the framed artwork fits well when hung above a sideboard in a living room, hallway, or study within a home setting.

A textile design study is a hand-painted or drawn technical artwork on paper used by textile manufacturers to visualize and plot patterns before production. Popular during the 19th and early 20th centuries, these works often feature intricate grid markings, colour trials, and manufacturer documentation stamps.

Original textile designs were typically executed using gouache, watercolour, or ink on paper or card. Designers utilized fine grid lines for scale alignment and incorporated hand-painted colour swatches along the borders to guide dye selection and weave production.

Authentic pieces usually retain visible technical elements such as hand-drawn gridded guidelines, marginal colour reference blocks, and inscriptions or stamps from established weaving mills. Natural ageing, mild foxing on paper, and handwritten reference numbers further indicate genuine historical provenance.

Framed textile designs work well as focal points above sideboards or mantlepieces, or as part of a curated gallery wall. Pairing the detailed historical pattern with clean modern furniture creates a refined contrast that highlights both the artworks craftsmanship and the rooms contemporary lines.

Display paper artworks away from direct sunlight and damp conditions to prevent fading, warping, and foxing. Using UV-filtering glass and acid-free archival mounts ensures long-term preservation of the paper and pigment integrity.
