Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Antique woolwork pictures, including needlepoint and Berlin woolwork, were popular forms of textile art during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Crafters stitched colourful wool yarns onto canvas grounds, often reproducing famous landscape paintings, biblical scenes, and pastoral views for domestic display.

These textile pieces were executed using dyed wool threads stitched onto a woven canvas backing using tent stitch or cross stitch. The framed examples typically feature glazed giltwood frames constructed from timber with moulded gesso decorative ornament.

Authentic woolwork displays subtle fading on the front surface relative to the vibrant wool colours on the reverse. Examination of the back often reveals period mounting methods, historic timber backing boards, and age-related oxidisation or patina on the surrounding gilt frame.

A large framed textile picture brings texture and historical weight when mounted above a sideboard, fireplace mantelpiece, or console table. Juxtaposing the intricate hand-stitched details against contemporary wall colours creates a balanced, layered interior scheme.

Textile art should be displayed away from direct sunlight and damp environments to prevent fading of wool dyes and canvas deterioration. Frame glazing protects against dust, while ensuring the reverse remains sealed prevents insect ingress.
