This Art Deco side table is from the 1930 period and originates from Denmark. The piece is constructed from cocobola veneer over timber with a dark brown waxed and polished finish. The design incorporates a bookmatched veneer pattern that flows continuously from the top surface down through the four-drawer fascia, accompanied by circular silvered metal knobs and four tapered legs. Measuring 85.5 cm high by 105 cm wide and 48 cm deep, the table provides a practical surface and storage capacity. In a contemporary home, this console finds placement in an entrance hallway beside the front door or within a living room to hold everyday items. The four-drawer configuration offers concealed organization for keys, mail, or small accessories, while the compact depth ensures it fits comfortably against a wall in circulation spaces or reception areas without obstructing movement.

FAQs

Art Deco side tables, popular during the 1920s and 1930s, feature geometric silhouettes, streamlined forms, and exotic wood veneers reflecting modern industrial design.

Craftsmen typically utilised high-contrast wood veneers such as rosewood, walnut, and macassar ebony, often paired with chrome, brass, or nickel drawer knobs.

Authentic pieces display dovetailed drawer joints, original metal hardware, hand-applied lacquer or shellac finishes, and symmetrical bookmatched veneer patterns.

Position the table in an entryway, hallway, or living space, paired with minimal table lamps or contemporary artwork to emphasize its clean geometric structure.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply high-grade beeswax sparingly along the grain, keeping the timber away from direct heat and sunlight.
