These 16th century Flemish tapestry border panels originate from Brussels, circa 1570-1580, in the Renaissance style. Woven from wool and silk, the vertical panels display a dominant palette of blue, red, cream and muted natural tones. Each piece depicts a seated classical female figure on a throne beneath ferronerie bearing flowers, fruits and leaves, surrounded by foliate scrollwork and framed by a running wave border. The left panel shows 'Victory' holding a palm, while the right panel displays 'Fame' bearing two straight Roman trumpets. The textiles measure 137 cm high and 56 cm wide. Designed for narrow wall spaces, the panels suit display in a hallway, stairwell, or between windows within an English country house interior, hung flat against a wall to preserve the woven composition.

Tapestry borders were woven framing elements produced alongside large central narrative panels in Flanders during the Renaissance, often depicting allegorical figures, urns, and foliate scrollwork.

Flemish weavers utilised hand-spun wool for structural warp and weft threads, frequently weaving silk yarns into high-contrast areas to add sheen and tonal depth.

Authentic period tapestries feature hand-woven construction with visible weave tension variations, natural vegetable dye oxidation, and evidence of historical conservation or re-framing.

Vertical textile fragments can be mounted and hung in narrow architectural niches, corridors, or placed symmetrical to a fireplace or entryway to introduce historical texture.

Display textiles away from direct sunlight and high humidity, use specialist support fabrics for mounting to prevent stretch, and consult professional conservators for cleaning.
