Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

This George III tray dates to the 18th century and follows a Georgian style. The piece is made of mahogany with a dark brown colour and displays a rich wood grain, a glossy finish and a smooth patina. Details include an oval shape, a hand-carved pie crust scalloped rim, a carved border and integral carved handles located at either end on the underneath. The tray measures 4 cm high and 45 cm wide. In a modern interior, this item functions as a decorative accessory placed on a sideboard top in a dining room or living area. It provides a flat surface for display purposes while bringing traditional English country house character to the space.

FAQs

A pie crust tray is an 18th-century serving vessel characterized by a raised scalloped rim that resembles the crimped edge of a pastry crust, popular during the Georgian era.

These trays were typically crafted from solid mahogany, often carved directly from a single timber board or constructed with applied carved moulding around the perimeter.

Authentic period pieces display hand-carved scalloped borders, natural surface wear on the underside, period joinery marks, and a deep natural patina gained from age.

Place the tray on a sideboard, coffee table, or console table to serve as a base for anchoring smaller decorative accessories, glassware, or decanters.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a light coat of beeswax polish periodically, ensuring liquids and hot objects are kept off the bare wood.
