This Victorian cast iron stick stand dates from the 19th century and takes the form of a footballer holding a ball beneath the word "FOOTBALLER" at the top, complete with original detachable twin drip trays and brass finials. The black finish displays original dark green paintwork showing minor wear and surface rust, complemented by scrolled brackets, spiralled spindles, and two square drip pans at the base. Measuring 86 cm high, 50 cm wide, and 21 cm deep, this umbrella stand is compact enough to suit a hallway. It sits neatly beside the front door to hold walking sticks, canes, and umbrellas.

Victorian cast iron stick stands were utilitarian hall furniture items designed during the nineteenth century to store walking sticks, canes, and umbrellas, often incorporating decorative or figurative motifs.

These stands were produced by pouring molten iron into detailed sand moulds, resulting in heavy, rigid, and highly durable metalwork that frequently included integrated or removable drip trays at the base.

Authentic period pieces typically display foundry marks or diamond registration stamps, sharp casting definition, heavy weight, and natural signs of age such as minor paint wear or surface oxidisation.

Position the stand near the primary entryway or porch area to function as a practical receptacle for umbrellas while adding historical weight and character to a contemporary hallway.

Keep the iron dry to prevent rust formation, dust regularly with a soft bristle brush, and periodically apply a thin coat of clear microcrystalline wax to protect the painted or patinated surface.
