This nineteenth-century Victorian French Revival writing table is constructed from warm brown burr walnut with brass and leather elements. The piece has a shaped serpentine front and a raised superstructure with small drawers, all finished with rich figured veneers and ornate gilt metal mounts. Details include a tooled green leather writing surface, cabriole legs, and a decorative brass gallery. Measuring 95 cm high, 122 cm wide, and 66 cm deep, the desk functions effectively as a statement workspace, a dressing table, or a feature furniture item in a study, library, or drawing room. The antique design incorporates a central drawer to the raised back section, a shaped mirrored panel behind the gallery, and gilt metal mounts and sabots on the legs. The surface displays age-related wear, marks, and signs of use consistent with its history, while the leather writing surface shows character and the metal fixtures present well. The desk provides practical storage and surface space while maintaining a strong period aesthetic suitable for traditional or classic interior settings.

A Victorian French Revival writing table combines 19th-century British craftsmanship with 18th-century French design elements, such as Rococo curves, cabriole legs, burr wood veneers, and gilded brass ormolu mountings.

These pieces typically feature a solid hardwood substrate, such as mahogany or pine, overlaid with highly figured burr walnut veneers, cast brass or bronze fittings, and an inset leather writing surface.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, cast and chased metal mounts showing natural age patination, original lock mechanisms, and uneven hand-finished timber surfaces beneath.

A period writing desk functions effectively as a focal statement piece in a modern study, hallway, or living room, paired with contemporary lighting and neutral wall finishes to accentuate the wood grain.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft cloth and apply high-grade beeswax sparingly to nourish timber veneers. Leather inserts should be kept away from direct heat sources and treated with dedicated leather conditioners.
