Description

An outstanding Art Deco burr walnut leather top desk. This was made in England, it dates from the 1930’s.

This is a useful and fairly petite size, there is a high quality black leather writing surface with Greek key tooling around the edges. It stands on beautifully carved feet, the back is nicely finished, so this can be used as a free standing item.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco desks from the 1920s and 1930s combine functional geometric shapes with rich, decorative wood veneers such as burr walnut. They typically feature streamlined silhouettes, inset leather writing surfaces, and integrated drawer pedestals.

These desks were primarily constructed using solid timber frames faced with highly figured burr walnut veneers, often paired with leather writing inserts and custom timber or metal hardware.

Authentic pieces feature original figure-matched veneers, hand-dovetailed drawer joints, period-correct drawer pulls, and age-appropriate natural wear or patina along the base and writing surface.

Position the desk centrally in a home office or study, pairing it with a tailored desk chair and minimalist brass lighting to accentuate the warm tones of the walnut veneer.

Keep the wood veneer away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight, dust regularly with a soft cloth, apply natural beeswax periodically to the timber, and treat the leather top with specialist leather balm.
