In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

This taxidermy whitetail deer shoulder mount originates from 1920 in the Highland Lodge style. The piece combines natural taxidermy hide, branching antlers, warm brown wood, and glass elements. The head displays an eight-point antler set above glass eyes, mounted centrally onto a shaped, dark wooden shield-shaped plaque with decorative moulding edges. Integrated hoof hooks hold a gun horizontally beneath the animal display, demonstrating functional sporting design. The timber plaque exhibits a visible grain pattern with black trim around the shaped perimeter. The whole assembly measures 123 cm high, 54 cm wide, and 60 cm deep. Such a traditional sporting trophy brings rustic lodge-style character to domestic interiors. It suits placement above the mantel in a study, library, country house hallway, or living room. The piece integrates easily into schemes celebrating traditional rural pursuits, providing authentic decorative presence for wall mounting in a period property or country retreat.

FAQs

Taxidermy mounts gained popularity during the Victorian era as trophies showcasing sporting pursuits and natural history study, frequently displayed in country estates and hunting lodges.

Traditional mounts utilise preserved natural hide and antlers set over a modelled skull or solid mannequin form, mounted onto a carved wooden plaque with glass eyes.

Authentic older pieces often exhibit wooden backboards with historic maker labels, hand-painted glass eyes, natural wear to the fur, and traditional stitch construction.

Position the piece as a central focal point above a mantelpiece, sideboard, or doorframe within a study, library, or hallway to add visual texture to neutral schemes.

Dust the fur gently in the natural direction of the hair using a soft brush or microfibre cloth, and store away from direct sunlight, dampness, and insect pests.
