This nineteenth-century decorative obelisk is a Victorian decorative object. Constructed from black marble and specimen stones including malachite, lapis lazuli and agate, the piece displays a black exterior with a multicoloured geometric stone mosaic inlay running up the tapered square shaft and around the stepped plinth base, finished with a pointed pyramidal finial at the top. The structure measures 76 cm high, 18 cm wide and 18 cm deep. Suitable for display in a gentleman's library, the obelisk functions well as a focal point placed upon a mantelpiece or a side table. It contributes a classical scholarly aesthetic to traditional domestic interiors.

A Victorian specimen marble obelisk is a tapered decorative stone monument produced during the 19th century, featuring mosaic arrangements of polished mineral samples set within a black marble frame.

These items were constructed using Derbyshire black limestone as the primary structure, inlaid with polished fragments of lapis lazuli, malachite, jaspers, and regional fluorites.

Authentic period obelisks display precision hand-cut joinery in the stone mosaic sections, age-appropriate surface wear, and heavy, stepped stone plinths rather than cast resin compositions.

An obelisk can be positioned on a mantelpiece, office desk, or console table to establish vertical height alongside books, architectural drawings, or metallic objects.

Maintain the stone surface by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying specialised neutral marble wax periodically, avoiding acidic solutions and abrasive chemical cleaners.
