A rare late 18th century 2 plank Welsh pine farmhouse table with what appears to be original paint and lovely patination. It seats 8 people comfortably with a good height of 77 cms. The base is of ash and the table is sturdy. There is a drawer to end (illustrated) which exudes age and character. The two plank top is secured to two supporting batons in the typical Welsh way with a mixture of handmade nails and pegs. The two end cleats are most likely later replacements. The George III period spans from 1760 to 1820, characterised by a blend of classical Palladian proportions, robust practicality, and the later introduction of lighter, more refined neoclassical influences as championed by designers like Thomas Chippendale and George Hepplewhite.

These tables were constructed primarily from domestic timbers such as pine, oak, and elm, featuring pegged mortise and tenon joints, hand-sawn multi-board plank tops, and sturdy stretchers designed to withstand heavy daily use in agricultural households.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate tool marks such as pit-sawing striations on undersides, hand-forged iron or wooden pegs, deep natural patination from centuries of use and cleaning, and shrinkage gaps between old timber planks.

An antique pine table can be grounded in a contemporary setting by pairing it with minimalist seating, modern industrial lighting, or a neutral palette to highlight the warmth and historical character of the weathered timber.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber warping, cleaning surfaces with a damp cloth only, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the antique finish.
