FAQs

Iron and brass beds gained widespread popularity during the Victorian era due to advancements in industrial manufacturing, which allowed for durable, hygienic alternatives to traditional wooden frames.

These frames typically utilise cast and wrought iron components, often joined with metal brackets, chilled iron fittings, and hand-poured joints characteristic of 19th-century metalworking.

Authentic pieces often show signs of hand-forging, historic paint layering, heavier metal weight, and traditional wedge-and-socket joint assembly rather than modern mechanical screws.

Pairing the stark metal lines with soft, natural textiles such as linen bedding and wool throws creates a balanced, textural contrast suited to both rustic and modern bedrooms.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a dry cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, and periodically checking structural joints to ensure stability without damaging historic painted surfaces.
