FAQs

Victorian iron bedsteads became widespread during the nineteenth century as a hygienic, durable alternative to wooden frames, featuring decorative cast iron joints and wrought scrollwork.

These bedsteads were typically fabricated using a combination of wrought and cast iron for the frame structure, often accented with brass collars, caps, and finials.

Authentic pieces feature cast iron corner joints known as chill casts, hand-worked iron scrollwork, imperial thread pitches on brass fittings, and substantial structural weight.

Pairing a dark iron bed frame with neutral linens and simple textured throws creates a balanced architectural contrast suitable for modern farmhouse or traditional schemes.

Dust the frame regularly with a dry cloth, apply microcrystalline wax to protect original painted surfaces from oxidisation, and clean brass fittings gently without harsh abrasives.
