Antique Walnut Beds

Physically, expect a frame with rails and bolts, sized or re-sized for a modern double, king or super-king mattress. A substantial minority are matched pairs of singles. A smaller group are headboards alone, some with bedside cabinets attached, and a handful are daybeds, sofa beds and chaises.
Where Value Sits
Size does more work than anything else. King, super king and the French frames described as two metres wide or emperor size hold the upper half of the range, while plain doubles cluster at the bottom. A frame that takes a modern mattress is the practical dividing line.
After size, it's decoration. On the French beds, carving carries the piece: the higher-priced ones are described as finely or ornately carved, and undecorated doubles sit low.
