Description

An attractive matching pair of early 20th-century wooden single beds, with mahogany frames and burr walnut panels in the Queen Anne style. The low foot ends have swan neck style feet and corner posts, whilst the tall head panels have exquisite panels of burr walnut veneer.

These beds accept standard UK single size 3'0" wide by 6'3" long bases and mattresses. There is an option to lengthen the beds so they accept 6'6", which are preferable for adults. It is possible to join these two beds to form a 6'0 wide (UK Super King) bed, and provide mattresses that zip together.

You will need bed bases to support the mattress. Bed bases sit on the bedstead frame and can be either Firm or Sprung and come in different depths with a choice of covers.

This bed is on display in our large showrooms in Chirk Mill, on the North Wales border an hour from Birmingham, Manchester or Liverpool. We are open 5 days a week ( Tuesday - Saturday) for visiting and for telephoning/e-mailing.

FAQs

Originating in the early 18th century during the reign of Queen Anne, this design style is defined by light curvilinear forms, cabriole legs, and subtle ornamental detailing. The movement favoured highly figured veneers, such as burr walnut, over heavy architectural carving.

Queen Anne style bedsteads were predominantly constructed from walnut, burr walnut veneers, and solid hardwoods such as oak or beech for internal framing. Components were fitted using traditional mortise and tenon joinery alongside hand-applied timber veneers.

Authentic pieces feature pad feet or scroll terminations on cabriole legs, hand-drawn veneer work, and unrefined underside timber surfaces displaying historical tool marks. Original burr walnut patination will exhibit variable grain texture and natural mellowing over time.
