Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large single bed dates from 1900 in the French Provincial style, made from cherry wood with a warm brown finish. It has a gently curved headboard and a foot end with soft rounded corners, supported by cabriole legs and an apron featuring carved floral decoration. Both the high headboard and the lower footboard have rectangular velvet upholstered panels in a soft blue colour, accented with rows of brass studding along the borders. The frame measures 128 cm high, 109.5 cm wide and 211 cm deep overall. It provides a practical and comfortable sleeping solution in a guest bedroom or a smaller apartment where extra sleep space is needed.

FAQs

French Provincial furniture originated in the 18th century as regional interpretations of Parisian court styles, particularly Louis XV. It incorporates graceful curves, understated floral carvings, and practical proportions suited to country homes.

These bed frames were typically constructed from durable regional hardwoods, such as walnut, oak, fruitwood, or beech. Upholstered panels often featured natural textiles fixed with brass studding along the perimeter.

Period examples exhibit hand-carved decorative motifs, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and visible signs of hand-tooling on the frame interior. The hardware and studding often display subtle irregularities characteristic of manual craftsmanship.

A French Provincial bedstead serves as a focal point in a guest bedroom when paired with neutral walls and contemporary textiles. Linen bedding in muted tones complements the warm timber and upholstered detailing without cluttering the aesthetic.

Clean timber components using a soft, dry cloth and apply beeswax sparingly to preserve the wood finish. Vacuum the velvet panels using a soft brush attachment and address spills immediately by blotting with an absorbent cloth.
