Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian pedestal takes the form of a tall column with an octagonal shaft finished in a hand-painted faux marbre effect. The design incorporates warm ochre tones across the central shaft, contrasted by a dark brown painted finish on the moulded capital and stepped plinth base. Subtle decorative mouldings define the upper and lower sections, while the wood construction provides a sturdy structure beneath the painted surface. The piece stands 133 cm high, offering a substantial presence for display purposes. Positioned in an interior space, the column serves as an architectural stand for sculptures, decorative urns, or large table lamps. It functions well in reception rooms, hallways, or libraries where elevated display surfaces are required. The neutral earth tones of ochre and brown allow the piece to complement various traditional and period decorative schemes within a domestic setting.

FAQs

A Victorian faux marble pedestal column is a tall, decorative stand created during the nineteenth century, painted using specialised trompe loeil techniques to mimic the appearance of genuine quarried marble or stone.

These pieces were typically constructed from softwood or timber frames, finished with plaster or gesso, and then painstakingly hand-painted to replicate coloured marble veining or natural stone.

Authentic pieces exhibit fine craquelure, natural surface wear along edges, age-related patination, and subtle, hand-applied brushwork rather than modern uniform screen-printed patterns.

Columns can be placed in entrance halls or room corners to display contemporary busts, terracotta urns, or sculptural floral arrangements, providing structural height and historical contrast.

Dust gently with a clean, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, alcohol-based solutions, or excessive moisture that could lift or damage original paintwork and gesso.
