Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Refectory tables originated in medieval monasteries where monks gathered for communal meals. Over the centuries, the design evolved from long, narrow monastery boards into domestic dining tables featuring sturdy central trestles or turned legs.

These tables are traditionally constructed from hard-wearing timbers such as oak, walnut, or elm, utilising traditional joinery techniques like mortise and tenon joints, pegged construction, and hand-turned supports to ensure structural longevity.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural patina, hand-planed surface textures, tool marks, and historical wear consistent with age. Examination of the underside and joinery often reveals hand-cut pegs and timber shrinkage patterns absent in modern reproductions.

Pairing a heavy wooden table with minimalist, modern seating creates a balanced contrast between old and new. Introducing contemporary lighting overhead and keeping table dressing simple highlights the natural grain and craftsmanship of the timber.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying and splitting. Clean surfaces with a slightly damp cloth, avoid chemical polishes, and periodically apply natural beeswax to nourish the grain.
