This Victorian percussion belt pistol dates from the mid-nineteenth century and functions as an antique collectable object for a gentleman's library or study. The piece displays a curved dark brown wooden grip, a steel grey octagonal barrel, and a polished metal action plate secured with two pins. A steel trigger guard protects the curved metal trigger beneath the caplock hammer mechanism, while a slender ramrod mounts along the underside of the barrel. Surface weathering and dark patination appear across the metal components, indicating age and previous handling. The item measures 12 cm high by 27 cm wide by 3 cm deep. Collectors display such items on a bookshelf or within a glass display cabinet to complement period interior aesthetics. The compact proportions allow placement among historical book collections, desk displays, or dedicated firearm cabinets.

A 19th-century percussion belt pistol is a muzzle-loading handgun that replaced flintlock mechanisms with a caplock system. Designed to be carried on a belt or in a pocket, these firearms were widely used for personal defence and military sidearms prior to the widespread adoption of cartridge revolvers.

These pistols were typically crafted with forged steel or iron barrels and mechanisms paired with dense wooden stocks, most commonly walnut or mahogany. Brass or iron was used for fittings, trigger guards, and ramrod pipes.

Authentic period examples display period-correct proof marks stamped on the barrel or breech, natural age-related patina on the metalwork, hand-fitted mechanical components, and correct signs of wear around the nipple and hammer assembly.

Antique sidearms are frequently styled inside glazed display cabinets, mounted on wooden shadow boxes, or positioned on desk surfaces and bookshelves in study spaces to bring a historical accent to classic or dark academia interiors.

Preservation requires storing the object in a climate-controlled environment with low humidity to prevent rust. Metal components should be wiped down periodically with microcrystalline wax or gun oil, while wooden stocks benefit from light applications of beeswax paste.
