Rococo tapestries emerged in 18th-century France, characterized by ornate curves, asymmetrical designs, pastel colour palettes, and pastoral or romantic motifs that reflected the artistic tastes of the period.

Authentic period tapestries were typically hand-woven using a combination of dyed wool and silk threads, occasionally incorporating metallic threads such as gilt-wrapped silver for enhanced detail.

Authentification involves examining the weave density, the natural ageing of the wool and silk fibres, the dye consistency under magnification, and often looking for historical weavers marks or workshop signatures.

A large textile piece serves as a striking focal point when hung on a prominent wall in a living room or hallway, providing textural contrast against minimalist or neutral modern architectural surfaces.

Preservation requires avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, mounting the piece with a breathable fabric support system to distribute weight evenly, and periodically consulting a textile conservator for professional cleaning.
