FAQs

Victorian furniture encompasses a range of revival styles drawing inspiration from Gothic, Elizabethan, Rococo, and classical eras, often characterised by heavy ornamentation, dark woods, and meticulous craftsmanship.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid secondary woods like pine or mahogany, faced with decorative veneers such as burr walnut or kingwood, and assembled using traditional dovetail joints and hand-cut joinery.

Authenticity is determined by examining timber shrinkage, hand-cut dovetailing, tool marks on the underside, period-appropriate hardware like brass locks, and the natural patina developed over decades of use.

Placing an antique wooden table against a minimalist backdrop creates a striking focal point, allowing its natural grain and historical silhouette to contrast effectively with modern seating and clean architectural lines.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent veneer fading, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the timber finish.
