Caryatids and putti figures were widely utilised in European architecture and furniture design during the Renaissance and Baroque periods, particularly in Flemish and Italian workshops, to serve as both structural supports and decorative motifs.

Master carvers typically employed dense domestic hardwoods such as oak or walnut, using hand chisels and gouges to achieve high-relief three-dimensional forms with intricate surface detailing.

Authenticity is determined by examining tool marks for hand-carved inconsistencies, checking for natural oxidisation and patina within the grain, and identifying shrinkage patterns consistent with centuries of age.

These pieces can be mounted on display stands as sculptural focal points on a mantelpiece or bookshelf, introducing historical texture and classical form into modern spaces.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and dusting gently with a dry, soft bristle brush without applying modern polishes or chemical treatments.
