Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 19TH CENTURY:
Hand-cut dovetails at the gallery corners: traditional cabinet work before machine cutting.
Bold S-scroll front legs with acanthus carving: typical early nineteenth-century design.
Gadrooned moulding across the frieze: carefully disguised front drawer openings.
Brass barrel castors under the scroll feet: period hardware in sound condition.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century William IV console table in mahogany has a warm brown colour with a hand-waxed finish and a rich patina. The top surface incorporates a raised gallery back with shaped sides, while the frieze displays carved gadrooned edge detailing. Two drawers are concealed within the front apron, positioned above bold S-scroll front legs that terminate in brass castors and are supported by plain rear legs. The dimensions measure 96 cm high, 114 cm wide, and 57 cm deep. Practical for everyday use, this side table functions effectively beside the front door or in a hallway for surface storage and display. The configuration suits placement along a living room or dining room wall to hold decorative accessories or lamps while providing accessible storage within the integrated drawers.

FAQs

William IV furniture, dating from 1830 to 1837, bridges the Regency and Victorian eras. It is defined by heavy classical proportions, bold S-scroll carved legs, gadrooned borders, and rich flame mahogany or rosewood veneers.

These tables were typically crafted from solid mahogany or flame mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcasses. Construction featured hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-carved architectural details, and solid brass castors.

Authentic pieces feature heavy, turned or scrolled legs, detailed gadrooning along the apron, original timber patination, and hand-worked underside construction rather than machine-cut joinery.

Position the console table in a hallway or entryway beneath modern abstract artwork to create contrast, balancing the warm wood tones with contemporary glass or ceramic decorative objects.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish once or twice yearly. Avoid placing timber tables near direct heat sources or in direct sunlight to prevent drying and fading.
