This nineteenth-century William IV console table takes the form of a rectangular piece constructed from mahogany with a warm brown finish. The timber displays a prominent grain, while the design incorporates a low gallery splashback at the rear of the top surface. Bold cabriole legs with S-scroll shapes support the structure at the front, finishing in curled feet with circular carved motifs, and the rear is supported by plinth feet. Measuring 76 cm high, 107 cm wide and 45 cm deep, the table stands well in a hallway or beside the front door to greet visitors. It suits placement alongside both Georgian and Victorian furniture in a traditional home interior.

The William IV period (18301837) bridged the late Regency era and early Victorian style, characterised by robust proportions, bold carved scrolls, and classical architectural influences.

Tables from this period were primarily crafted from dense West Indian mahogany, often featuring flame mahogany veneers on top surfaces and solid turned or carved wooden supports.

Authentic pieces feature characteristic heavy S-scroll or scroll-form front legs, low gallery splashbacks, traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery, and hand-finished timber patination.

Position the console table against a neutral backdrop in a foyer or hallway, pairing it with contemporary artwork or a round wall mirror above to balance historical weight with clean modern lines.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality natural beeswax polish twice yearly, keeping the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber cracking or finish fading.
