FAQs

Antique tapestries were traditionally hand-woven in workshops across Europe, primarily serving as insulating wall hangings for castles and manor houses before evolving into purely decorative art forms.

Traditional tapestries were crafted using hand-spun wool, silk, and occasionally metallic threads like gold or silver wrapped around a core, dyed with natural pigments from plants and insects.

Authenticity is determined by examining the weave density, hand-spun fibre inconsistencies, natural dye oxidation patterns, and the presence of backing materials or selvage edges consistent with historical manufacturing techniques.

Mounting a textile fragment on a neutral linen backing inside a clean-lined frame or hanging it tautly from a discreet iron rod creates a striking focal point that balances contemporary minimalism with historical texture.

Preservation requires keeping textiles away from direct sunlight to prevent dye fading, avoiding hanging them in humid areas, and consulting a specialist conservator for gentle, dust-removal techniques.
