A matching pair of nineteenth century Rococo Revival console tables constructed from warm brown walnut with contoured marble tops in ochre tones. The design incorporates serpentine aprons, cabriole legs terminating in ball and claw feet, and ornate scroll stretchers linking the supports together. Each console table stands at 82 cm high, 115 cm wide, and 60 cm deep. These pieces suit placement beside the front door of a home today, offering a decorative surface in a hallway or entrance area. The natural timber finish shows visible grain variations across the carved frames, while the stone tops display distinct mottled patterns in neutral shades. The scrolling woodwork and curved legs reflect French chateau styling suited to traditional interiors.

FAQs

Console tables originated in 17th-century France and Italy as narrow tables supported by wall brackets or decorative legs, designed to stand flush against a wall or within an entrance hall.

Traditional console tables frequently feature carved solid hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or giltwood, paired with polished marble or breccia stone tops selected for their rich veining and durability.

Look for signs of hand-carving along the apron and legs, natural age-related patina on the wood finish, hand-cut joinery underneath, and unpolished saw marks on the underside of the marble slab.

Console tables function effectively in hallways, corridors, or positioned behind a sofa, where the natural stone surface provides contrast against soft upholstery and contemporary textures.

Dust the carved woodwork regularly with a soft cloth and apply beeswax sparingly, while cleaning the marble slab using a pH-neutral cleaner to prevent acidic damage to the stone surface.
