This Louis XV-style console table from 1910 combines French Empire Revival design with practical elegance. The piece consists of a large green veined marble top resting above a central frieze drawer fitted with cast ormolu handles. Warm brown burr wood veneer covers the structure, accented by gilt bronze mounts, polished circular marble columns, and a mirrored backplate. The table stands on turned feet attached to a plinth base. Measuring 108 cm high, 152 cm wide, and 57 cm deep, the console serves as a striking statement piece in a hallway or beside the front door. Homeowners can use the surface for displaying decorative objects while adding a French chateau aesthetic to an entryway.

FAQs

A console table or pier table is a narrow accent table originally created to stand against a wall or between windows, developed in 17th-century France as an architectural accent.

These tables were constructed from high-grade timber veneers such as burr walnut or mahogany, fitted with carved marble tops, mirrored glass backplates, and gilt bronze ormolu mounts.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut joinery, authentic foxing on the mirrored glass, natural veining across hand-shaped marble tops, and detailed chiseled brass mountings.

Position the piece in an entrance hall or foyer, balancing its architectural proportions with structured contemporary artwork or minimalist ceramics placed on the top surface.

Clean marble surfaces using pH-neutral stone cleaners to protect against acidic etching, dust gilt mounts with a soft dry brush, and keep wood veneers out of direct sunlight.
