This 18th-century Louis XVI demilune console table is rendered in warm brown walnut and topped with variegated Breche d'Alep marble. The shaped top sits above a slender moulded edge and a pierced carved frieze decorated with trailing leaves and circular flower heads. The structure is supported by four turned tapering legs featuring fluted channels, harebell motifs, acanthus leaf carvings at the upper sections, and matching carved feet. Swept stretchers with beadwork decoration unite the legs beneath, centred by a decorative circular roundel. The piece measures 92.1 cm high by 125.1 cm wide and 52.1 cm deep. Positioned beside a front door or in a grand entrance hallway, this French chateau-style console table provides a practical surface for displaying decorative items, lighting, or everyday essentials. The slender profile and open stretcher base maintain a light footprint within smaller domestic spaces, while the classic Louis XVI silhouette complements both traditional and restrained contemporary interiors. The natural wood grain shows consistent warm tones across the legs and stretchers, contrasting with the multicoloured, polished stone surface above.

Louis XVI furniture is characterised by neoclassical symmetry, geometric proportions, and straight lines, departing from the elaborate curves of the Rococo period. Common design features include tapered fluted legs, carved friezes, and motifs inspired by classical antiquity such as floral garlands and paterae.

Craftsmen typically utilized dense European hardwoods such as walnut, oak, and beech, which were often carved, painted, or gilded. These wooden frames were frequently fitted with thick slabs of variegated natural marble, including varieties like Breche or Rouge Royale.

Authentic pieces feature hand-sawn timber elements, hand-carved decorative work, and traditional pegged mortise-and-tenon joinery. The underside of the wood and the stone top will display irregular tool marks consistent with period handcrafting techniques.

Place the table against a neutral backdrop in an entryway or hallway to highlight its architectural silhouette. Pairing the piece with a minimalist wall mirror or contemporary artwork creates an effective balance between historical detail and modern space.

Dust the carved wooden frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish sparingly when needed. Clean the marble top using a pH-neutral stone cleaner to avoid chemical etching caused by acidic substances.
