Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Black Forest wood carving refers to the highly detailed, ornate wooden sculptures and furnishings produced in the Brienz region of Switzerland and the Black Forest region of Germany during the 19th and early 20th centuries, typically featuring naturalistic motifs such as animals and foliage.

Traditional Black Forest items were crafted primarily from native European softwoods and hardwoods like lime, linden, walnut, and pine, shaped using hand chisels and gouges with visible tool marks left by master carvers.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit deep, three-dimensional relief work with realistic anatomical detailing, a dark wax or stained finish, hand-cut joinery, and natural age-related patina rather than modern machine sanding or resin casting.

A carved wall bracket can be mounted independently as sculptural wall art or used functionally to display small curated objects, plants, or timepieces, adding texture and historical contrast to minimalist or contemporary spaces.

Preserve antique wood by keeping it out of direct sunlight and away from rapid humidity fluctuations, dusting gently with a soft dry brush, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the dry timber.
