This large nineteenth century French console table in the Grand Regency style comes in warm brown flame mahogany veneers with a dark grey marble slab top and brass hardware. The timber shows rich grain patterns across the two frieze drawers, which are fitted with keyhole escutcheons, and extends down to a low undertier shelf. Turned front supports rest on rounded feet, while the upright profile provides practical surface space. Measuring 94 cm high, 132 cm wide and 53 cm deep, the piece suits placement beside the front door or along a hallway wall to display decorative items while offering storage inside the drawers and across the lower shelf.

FAQs

An antique console table is a narrow side table designed to stand against a wall, historically supported by wall brackets or front supports, and commonly positioned in entryways, foyers, or dining rooms during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

These tables were typically constructed using solid hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, finished with highly figured flame mahogany veneers, and fitted with thick marble slab tops for weight and durability.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, period lock plates, secondary softwoods like pine or oak inside the drawer linings, and natural age-related patination across the timber and marble surface.

Place the table in an entryway or corridor beneath a large wall mirror, balancing its dark tones with contemporary ceramic accessories, minimalist lighting, or glass vessels.

Clean the marble top using pH-neutral soap and water, avoiding acidic cleaning solutions, and preserve the mahogany timber by applying beeswax polish periodically while keeping the piece away from direct heat sources.
