This large console table or serving sideboard dates from the 19th century in the William IV or Early Victorian style. The piece is constructed from dark brown mahogany with flame mahogany veneer on the drawer fronts, sides, and base curb, paired with white marble for the top and lower shelf. The table stands on large carved paw feet beneath solid mahogany S-scroll front supports with crisp carved detail, alongside straight rear supports featuring moulded elements and carved detailing at the base. Two drawers are integrated into the frieze with mahogany linings. Measuring 96.5 cm high, 150 cm wide, and 65 cm deep, the console is designed for placement beside a front door or in a hallway or dining room as a serving sideboard. The surfaces are finished with a wax application following workshop cleaning, showing minor repairs consistent with its age.

Originating in classical architectural traditions, 19th-century marble top console tables served as statement display surfaces in grand entryways and dining rooms, characterized by timber framing and stone tops.

These tables typically utilize flame mahogany or rosewood veneers applied over solid timber carcasses, paired with hand-carved S-scroll supports, claw feet, and thick polished marble slabs.

Authentic period pieces display hand-carved decorative motifs, natural age patina on timber surfaces, unpolished undersides of marble slabs, and period joinery along the back framework.

Position the piece in an entryway or dining room, anchoring it with a large contemporary wall mirror above and contrasting its carved details with textured ceramic vases or sculptural lighting.

Clean marble immediately using pH-neutral soap solutions to prevent staining, dust timber regularly with a soft microfibre cloth, and apply high-grade beeswax polish annually to protect the mahogany veneer.
