Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A nineteenth-century Victorian billiards scoring board by Thurston & Co Ltd is formed of dark brown mahogany with brass hardware and yellow painted numerals. It features horizontal numeric tracks with sliding wooden markers, alongside a brass maker plaque positioned at the top centre. The visible features include wooden runners, small sliding pegs, and hand-painted numerical indicators ranging from zero to three hundred on the upper register and zero to twenty on the lower register. It measures 31 cm high, 97 cm wide, and 6 cm deep. Such a piece suits a gentleman's library or games room mounted on a narrow wall space. It functions well as decorative wall art or as a working scorekeeper in a domestic setting dedicated to traditional table games.

FAQs

A mahogany billiards scoring board is a wall-mounted wooden apparatus featuring sliding markers along calibrated horizontal tracks, designed to track cumulative scores in billiards, snooker, or pool during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

These scoreboards were predominantly constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, featuring brass fixings, gilt or painted numeric markings, and wooden pointer slides.

Authentic examples frequently feature maker plaques from established nineteenth-century manufacturers, original gilt or hand-painted numerals, natural surface patination, and mortise-and-tenon frame joinery.

This item can be mounted as architectural wall art in a home office, games room, or hallway, serving as a focal point above a console table or framed within a gallery wall arrangement.

Dust the frame regularly with a dry, soft cloth, apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually along the wood grain, and avoid exposure to direct sunlight or humid environments to prevent warping.
