Architectural capitals serve as the uppermost crowning component of a column or pilaster, transferring structural weight while providing decorative detail. Historically derived from classical Greek and Roman orders, carved wooden capitals were frequently employed in Italian Renaissance and Baroque interiors to adorn doorways, altarpieces, and architectural panelling.
