Imari porcelain is a type of Japanese export porcelain produced in the town of Arita, in the former Hizen Province, and shipped from the port of Imari to Europe starting in the Edo period during the late 17th century.

Imari pieces are crafted from fine kaolin clay, shaped on a potters wheel, and fired at high temperatures. They are characterised by an underglaze cobalt blue and an overglaze palette of iron red, highlighted with gilt details.

Authentic antique pieces display hand-painted brushwork with slight imperfections, a characteristic gritty unglazed foot ring, craquelure in the glaze, and natural wear consistent with age rather than uniform modern printing.

These decorative chargers can be mounted on walls as focal art pieces, displayed vertically on mantels using plate stands, or incorporated into eclectic cabinet displays to add rich colour and historical texture.
