Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of wall brackets originates from 1890 France in the French Provincial style. Fashioned from wood, the pieces receive an off-white cream painted finish accented with yellow trim along the moulded edges. Each decorative bracket displays carved volute scroll motifs at the top and bottom corners, leaf carvings along the curved outer borders, and hand-painted French lettering across the central surface. The visible wear includes craquelure and distress within the aged painted surfaces, slight surface cracks in the wooden construction, and minor paint loss near the edges. The dimensions measure 51 cm high, 53 cm wide, and 4 cm deep. Display these decorative wooden brackets mounted upon a wall in a traditional living space, hallway, or study to introduce architectural interest and historical character. The neutral cream and yellow colour scheme coordinates well with diverse interior palettes, while the lettering and scrollwork provide distinct visual focal points. They function well as standalone decorative wall elements or above console tables and sideboards to anchor a room design.

FAQs

Architectural brackets, or corbels, were structurally and decoratively installed to support heavy beams, mantels, or religious altars in historic French buildings and chapels.

These pieces were generally hand-carved from dense hardwoods such as oak or pine, then finished with gesso and polychrome paint or leaf gilding.

Authentic examples exhibit natural age-related paint distressing, evidence of hand-chiseled timber construction, and original inscriptions or French painted lettering.

They can be mounted directly onto walls as sculptural artwork, positioned to frame doorway openings, or fitted beneath a mantelpiece or display shelf.

Dust gently using a dry, soft-bristled brush or microfibre cloth, avoiding water and harsh liquid cleaners that could strip flaking paint or original gesso.
