A Rare London Made Nine Sided 18thc Telescope

Description

A single drawer mahogany nine sided telescope by Isaac Bradford circa 1795.Reverse taper form. Isaac Bradford worked from Bell Dock and later with his son George from 136 Minories London.

Extremely rare, being nine sided (most are 8 or 10 sided if you can find one) and in extremely good condition. The lenses appear fine and it focusses well with good magnification. The makers name is engraved on the eyepiece which has a correct and fully working lens shutter. The silver plating (over copper) makes this telescope special and it was probably made for a person of some standing. The objective lens looks to be 1.5'' in diameter and is protected by its original lens cap. The mahogany has some minor age cracks but these are insignificant. The mahogany stand is later. An excellent collectors piece or perhaps for a museum.
