FAQs

Tribal carved bone art encompasses functional and ceremonial objects crafted from animal bone or horn by various indigenous cultures, often featuring intricate relief carvings depicting human figures, animals, or tribal history.

Artisans typically utilised readily available organic materials such as bone, horn, ivory, and wood, employing hand tools like chisels, knives, and abrasives to shape and detail the surface.

Authenticity is determined by examining surface patination, tool marks consistent with period craftsmanship, natural ageing such as yellowing or hairline fractures, and the density and weight of the organic material.

Such pieces function well as focal points on bookshelves, mantelpieces, or display cabinets, pairing effectively with neutral backgrounds, minimalist decor, and natural textures to highlight their sculptural form and historical significance.

Preservation requires maintaining stable temperature and humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent bleaching or drying out, and dusting gently with a soft, dry cloth without applying water or chemical cleaners.
