Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Founded in Cornwall during the late 19th century, the Newlyn Industrial Class taught local fishermen copper repousse and metalworking skills to provide alternative income during poor fishing seasons. The school became famous for hand-hammered designs inspired by local marine life and rustic flora.

Hand-hammered copper trays are formed from sheet copper using manual beating and shaping tools, resulting in a distinctive faceted surface finish. Details such as handles are often integral to the sheet or riveted, with edges finished via rolling or crimping.

Authentic pieces feature visible tool marks from manual hammering rather than uniform machine stamping. Many examples bear stamped makers marks, such as NEWLYN, along with characteristic regional design motifs like fish, sea kelp, or stylized botanical forms.

An antique copper tray functions as a decorative base on a sideboard top or coffee table to group barware, glassware, or ceramics. It can also be displayed vertically on a plate rack or shelf back to highlight the warm metal tones.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and clean with mild soapy water if necessary, drying immediately. To preserve historic patination, avoid harsh chemical polishes or abrasive scrubbers that remove natural surface oxidisation.
