This nineteenth-century Victorian console table is a dark brown mahogany hardwood piece suited to a gentleman's library or beside the front door. It has a rectangular top with a moulded edge, supported on a trestle base with X-frame cross stretchers and a central carved roundel. The woodwork shows a dark timber colour and fine linear grain details across the surface, along with block feet at the base of each upright support. Practical for everyday use in hallways or studies, the table measures 80 cm high, 123 cm wide, and 60 cm deep. Its compact depth allows placement in narrow entranceways or against corridor walls while providing a solid surface for lamps, books, or decorative items.

An X-frame table is a style of furniture featuring structural cross supports formed in an X shape beneath the top, offering architectural stability and decorative visual interest inspired by classical and Renaissance design.

Nineteenth-century X-frame tables were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as dense mahogany, oak, or walnut, often held together with hand-cut mortise and tenon joints and finished with dark polish.

Authentic period pieces display evidence of hand-carved details, uneven undersides showing hand-planing marks, natural age patination, and original joinery techniques rather than uniform modern machine fittings.

Position the table in an entryway or living room as a side surface, contrasting its dark timber and geometric silhouette with minimalist wall lights, contemporary ceramic vessels, or a large modern mirror.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, keep the piece away from direct heat or damp conditions, and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once a year to nourish the timber finish.
