Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian rosewood console table by Robert Strahan of Dublin has a rich dark brown, figured wood finish and stands 91 cm high, 123 cm wide, and 38 cm deep. The top sits above a beaded upper frieze, two open tiers, and a solid plinth base, supported by carved scroll brackets with crisp Victorian detailing. The surface displays a polished sheen, contrasting with the dark carved motifs and open shelving. In a modern interior, this piece serves as a practical surface for display beside the front door or in a hallway, where the open shelves provide accessible storage for everyday items. The compact depth suits narrow spaces while offering substantial presence through its architectural design and dark timber grain.

FAQs

Victorian rosewood console tables are characterized by their rich, dark timber, deep grain patterns, and ornamental carving, often featuring scroll supports, frieze details, and open tier shelving.

Craftsmen during the nineteenth century predominantly utilised solid hardwoods and veneers such as Brazilian or East Indian rosewood, mahogany, and walnut, often finished with a French polish.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved joinery, original wood shrinkage along joints, natural oxidisation on the timber underside, and occasionally stamped maker marks or inventory numbers.

Position the console table in an entryway or hallway, balancing the dark wood tones with modern abstract artwork mounted above and minimalist ceramic decorative vessels placed on the shelves.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply high-grade beeswax sparingly twice a year along the wood grain, and keep the table situated away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
