This Victorian console serving table dates to circa 1890 and follows a traditional English Country House style. Constructed from mahogany with a dark brown finish, the table incorporates a raised gallery back and sides featuring intricate moulding, along with a carved apron beneath the frieze. Three drawers across the front are fitted with ornate swan-neck brass handles. The four cabriole legs terminate in detailed hoof feet, and hand-carved decorative motifs accent the knees and frame. Measuring 93 cm high, 127 cm wide, and 68 cm deep, the table provides substantial display and storage surface area. Practical placement includes positioning the console table beside the front door of a home to serve as a functional drop-zone for keys and correspondence, or in a dining room to hold serving dishes. The piece arrives ready for daily use in a domestic setting, combining period character with sturdy construction. Natural timber grain and polished mahogany surfaces highlight the traditional craftsmanship of the late Victorian era.

FAQs

Victorian console tables were designed for hallways, dining rooms, or reception areas during the nineteenth century, typically featuring dark wood finishes, carved detailing, and integrated drawer storage.

Late Victorian console tables were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, complemented by cast brass drop handles and hand-dovetailed timber joints.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces feature hand-carved decorative motifs, natural timber patination, period-appropriate brass hardware, and hand-cut dovetail joints on internal drawer construction.

Place the table against a hallway or living room wall to serve as a focal point, pairing it with contemporary wall art or a wall mirror to contrast the traditional dark timber.

Position the piece away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources, dust routinely with a dry microfibre cloth, and apply beeswax polish periodically to preserve the original wood finish.
