C19th burr-walnut and floral marquetry inlaid ormolu-mounted ''bureau plat'' or writing table. English in the French Louis XV taste. Of serpentine outline with single ''concealed'' frieze drawer, well-figured walnut veneers and good quality gilt-bronze ormolu mounts on shaped cabriole legs. Pretty coloured floral marquetry inlaid top ,together with original faded green and gilt tooled-leather inset top. Cross-grain moulded edge of strikingly selected figured timber.
Stamped on drawer edge ''Edwards and Roberts, Wardour St., London''. Edwards and Roberts were a well-respected firm of quality cabinet-makers and retailers.
Good rich colour and very clean example of a very practical and stylish writing table.
