Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain originates from the Arita region of Japan and was exported to Europe via the port of Imari beginning in the seventeenth century. Characterised by rich underglaze blue and overglaze enamel decoration, it gained high prestige across international markets during the Edo and Meiji periods.

Traditional Imari ware is crafted from fine kaolin clay porcelain, fired at high temperatures for durability. The decoration involves a multi-stage process featuring cobalt blue painted under the glaze, followed by overglaze enamel applications of iron red, gold gilding, and green or orange pigments.

Authentic Imari ware typically displays visible spur marks on the base from kiln firing, slightly uneven hand-painted brushwork, and characteristic colour palettes of cobalt blue, iron red, and gilding. Later reproductions often feature mechanical transfer patterns rather than freehand enamelling.

An Imari bowl functions as a focal point when positioned on a dark wood sideboard, marble fireplace mantelpiece, or glass coffee table. Its high-contrast colours complement both classic traditional decor and minimalist contemporary spaces.

Clean porcelain items using warm water and mild dish soap with a soft microfiber cloth, avoiding abrasive pads or chemical cleaners. Never submerge pieces with delicate overglaze gilding in standing water or place them in modern dishwashers.
