This unusual Japanese Imari bowl originates from the 1900 period and adopts a decorative bowl format made from porcelain. The exterior displays a distinct hexagonal shape with contrasting cobalt blue and rust red enamel panels framing intricate floral reserves and geometric patterns. Resting on a reflective wooden surface, the bowl shows visible hand-painted details including stylised foliage, leaves, insects and central flower motifs underneath a polished gloss finish. The complete piece measures 8 cm high, 14 cm wide and 14 cm deep. Position this compact porcelain vessel on a sideboard top within an English Country House interior setting for displaying small keepsakes or as an accent decorative item.

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export wares produced in the Arita region, historically shipped via the port of Imari. It is characterised by underglaze cobalt blue complemented by overglaze iron red and polychrome enamels.

It is crafted from high-fired porcelain kaolin clay. Designs are hand-painted in underglaze blue, fired, and then detailed with overglaze iron red and enamel pigments before undergoing a secondary firing.

Authentic pieces exhibit evidence of hand-painting with slight variations in line width, an unglazed foot ring showing natural ceramic wear, and light surface rubbing on the overglaze enamels.

A decorative porcelain bowl functions well as a tabletop accent placed on a coffee table, positioned on a sideboard top, or grouped inside a glazed display cabinet.

Clean gently by hand using lukewarm water and mild detergent, avoiding abrasive pads or automated dishwashers that can erode the overglaze enamel pigments.
