Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Chinese vernacular occasional table from the late 19th century takes the form of a round top made from an earlier wooden cartwheel, supported by a puzzle-jointed base with splayed legs and T-bar stretchers. Constructed from elm and hardwood, the piece displays a warm brown tone with a heavily weathered timber grain, visible signs of historic woodworm, and a rustic farmhouse aesthetic. Measuring 76 cm in height, the surface provides ample space for everyday utility. Suitable for placement at the end of a sofa or as a compact dining table in a living room, study, or hallway, the table brings organic texture to contemporary interiors. The sturdy three-legged configuration ensures stability while maintaining a compact footprint for versatile placement throughout the home.

FAQs

Late 19th-century Chinese vernacular furniture refers to utilitarian, regionally crafted wooden pieces made for everyday domestic use during the Qing dynasty, distinct from formal imperial court furnishings.

Craftsmen typically used regional woods such as elm, pine, or cypress, constructing pieces using traditional mortise-and-tenon joints that required minimal metal fasteners or glue.

Authentic pieces feature traditional joinery marks, natural surface weathering, uneven wear patterns on foot stretchers, and exposed wood grain with historic patina.

Position the table alongside a tailored modern sofa or armchair to create a contrast between textured, rustic timber and modern upholstery fabrics.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth, keep the item away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage, and apply natural beeswax sparingly to preserve the wood finish.
