Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This gentleman's walking stick sword stick originates from 1910 in the Victorian style. The piece uses cherry tree wood, horn, and silver, presenting a dark brown colour with a smooth finish on the handle and a knotty textured shaft. Visible details include a curved crook handle, a polished silver collar below the handle, a tapered ferrule at the base, and multiple raised naturalistic nodes along the length of the shaft. Measuring 92 cm in total length with a 12 cm handle width, the stick tapers from a diameter of 2.5 cm down to 1.6 cm at the ferrule. Owners can place this piece beside the front door for use as a functional walking aid in a hallway or gentleman's library setting.

FAQs

Sword canes, or system canes, became prominent in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as fashion items that provided concealed personal defence when public firearm carrying decreased among gentlemen.

Traditional walking sticks were constructed using dense hardwoods such as malacca, ebony, or oak, often combined with silver collars, horn handles, and forged steel internal blades.

Authenticity can be determined by inspecting hallmark stamps on metal collars, examining the natural patina and wear along the shaft, and testing the fit of push-button or friction release mechanisms.

These items are typically displayed upright in heavy ceramic or cast iron umbrella stands in entrance foyers, or mounted horizontally in wall racks within study spaces.

Apply natural beeswax polish to wooden shafts to preserve the finish, keep metal collars polished with appropriate cleaner, and store in a dry environment to prevent moisture damage.
